Mikah Lea Garner

Welcome
Mikah Lea Garner
September 27th 2009
11:13 am
7lbs 8 oz
21 inches
Mommy holding Mikah for the first time..but only for a second.
Holding her again and showing off the very unexpected head of hair.
Mikah and Daddy in the hospital before going home.
All 3 Garner kids at the house. Because of flu season the kids were not allowed in the Hospital. I was sad that they would not get to see her right away, but the nurses wheeled us to a room where the kids could look at her through a window from the parking lot...the very hot parking lot. They liked playing with toys in the lobby though. And he decided that he does lover her.
He even wiped her bum when we changed her diaper. It was just a pee pee diaper but he had to use 2 wipes!

Each baby is different and after laboring for about 14 hours at home, with contractions that were between 2 and 4 minutes apart, but not too painful, we decided to head to the hospital. On the ride there they got decidedly worse and I was almost 6cm upon arrival.
Naturally, I asked for my epidural as soon as I was admitted. I've never had any problems with them before, but this time half of my face went numb and my left eye was droopy, I was light headed and had a kink in my neck. And I could still feel some pain! They lowered my dose and gave me narcotics. (Those make you itch after wards!)
I had to push a little longer with Mikah, as her head was turned to the side. In addition, she had "pooped" in utero, so she was covered in merconium when she was born. They said it was "mild"...I wonder how bad it looks if it is serious!
We are all home now and looking forward to spending time with our new family member and having Nate off for 2 whole weeks!
(I need to make my list of things I need him to do!- and the kids will enjoy some special activities with just daddy.)

How a baby gets out of their Mom's Tummy.

Although Jake has mentioned before that he will throw the baby in the trash and that I am only his Mommy, he has been anxious for her to get here the past few days and even says he loves her. He also loves me and Maesyn but not Daddy, he says that Daddy is a meaner. Hmmm.
He still wonders if she has a stick so she can get out, and after explaining that she does not have a stick he is more than willing to get a stick so he can get her out for us.
He offered this morning to run outside and get a stick so he could get her out right then.

This was the scene at our house this evening.. Jake just cannot wait for her:
Prepping the area. Where to "dig" and squishing things around.
Getting Ready. Maes is assisting...or just observing. She is more rational about this whole thing, but also wondered if she could take 6 weeks off of school when the baby is born because I would take 6 weeks off of work!
The dig. I think Jake really thought that he was going to dig her out. When he first did this he pushed really hard into the side of my tummy. Nate told him to stop because he could hurt me and the baby..like "poke her in the eye". So then he pointed to different areas of my tummy to dig and asked if that was where her eye was. He decided that the belly button would be a good place.

"Mom, can we paint with watercolors? "

Sure.
So I assume that my children are sitting at the table, one paint pallet, one cup of water, one brush, and one piece of paper per child.
I rest on my bed.
REALITY. and I should have known better.
every paint pallet we own on the floor in the living room. (never mind that I have previously told them to only paint in the kitchen, i guess that is null and void if i don't mention it every time)
dirty paint water spilled on the floor.
all of my new dish rags that were only hours ago pristine white, on the floor soaked in paint water. (no, you cannot use just one dish rag-oh no...and I have to wash the un soiled ones because hey, they were on the floor.)
Jake on the couch with more paint pallets and my decorative pillows from my bed with shams and paint sponges. Thankfully nothing was wet or painted on...yet

my kids

I'm making the bed.
j: can I get on?
H: no i'm making the bed
jake tries to get on the bed.
H:no i'm making it...do you need a time out?
j:stupid
H: that's a bad word.
j:knock it off.
H: JAKE
j: whatever

So, i have not posted on Maes... she has been so nice and low key. Jake keeps doing these insaine things!
Maes is doing well in school. She has a parent teacher conference on Monday, but she got 100% on her tests in Math and her letter sounds!

I'm an art Teacher

On Monday afternoons I teach art classes at my house...in my kitchen..on Monday's after school.
This is what it looks like, some of the time!
It is Monday and I have a class arriving in about 30 minutes. I better get the kitchen clean and the bed made (finally) so that I can relax and enjoy the class on Vincent Van gogh.
Then I'll pack up the kids in the car and head out to Jake's school to teach a Family Art Class on Georges Seurat.
Hopefully all will go well and we can get to Mesa Frozen Yogurt for a Family Home Evening Treat...if we are still hungry after that we might manage some dinner before pajamas, reading scriptures, brushing our teeth and then some of the "chapter book" (Maes and Nate are reading the Chronicles of Narnia..book #1)

jake the dragon

Jake was in a dragon costume for a few days.
This is what he wants to wear when he marries me later on.

I let him wear it where ever we went. I think the only reason he has not had it on the past few weeks is that it is on the top bunk of the bunk bed and he cannot see it!

I won something.

It was on a blog that I found on my sister in laws blog list.
here is the blog. I just linked it to the contest post.
Our family will be getting a subscription to 3 magazines for free for a year.
It is through Maghound. I was thinking of getting magazines from them anyhow because even if you have to pay for them, it is a GREAT DEAL.
AND....perfect timing. I just got my last runner's world magazine yesterday. That is the one magazine to which I am hopelessly devoted.

Jacob and Maesyn...funny things

Jake sometimes likes to say bad words like:
"shut off" (shut up- we pretend that is a bad word, he thinks it is)
and
"knock it off" (we tell him it is not a bad word, but I think he wishes it were because he loves to say it so much)
and
"stupid girl" (which is the only one that is really bad and he gets in big trouble for this)
recently he has decided to have a cleaner mouth and has exchanged "stupid girl" for "silly girl"
So...When I asked him to clean up this evening he said "ok Silly Girl" and repeated it every time I asked him to do it.
Oh and when he says these things he has an extra deep voice.

Maesyn on the other hand, has told us that her name will be "Matilda" from now on. And I am "Ms. Honey".
She told her teacher, but her teacher said that she still had to be "Maesyn" in the classroom, but could be "Matilda" on the play ground.
I think she was disappointed.
I told her that when I was in the first grade, and my sister in second, we traded names. It only lasted the day. My teacher did not know who "Heather" was, and told me that I could not change my name.
Teachers.
Maesyn also came into our room with one of her dress ups altered a bit so that it was sleeveless. It was quite pretty and she said she wanted a wedding dress like that. (this coming from the girl who made me buy undershirts for so that she did not show her tummy) We explained that she will have a more modest wedding dress with sleeves. She put the dress on the right way and Nate and I both agreed that the sleeveless version was much prettier. Possibly more modest too. Her actual dress up is short sleeve with a plunging neck line ("it almost shows my chi chis") and then a section of sheer sleeve then more solid sleeve to make it a long sleeve. It is really quite hideous.

Giveaway

My friend Stephanie, who can sew anything, is having a give away. Check it out.

I had a very busy Monday and today I don't have much going today on so I vowed to deep clean the bathrooms. They have been getting Clorox wipe downs every few days, but it has been about 2 weeks sense their last deep clean. They are done, and now I need to put them back together.
In the mean time, sweet Maes has taken a nap and Jake has gotten out a lot of toys and messes (more for me to do on this "non busy" day).

He has been pushing around the remnants of his "a" (not A as in the letter, but the "a" sound as in "ant") in a stroller. It is now just dried pieces of blue clay, but I am not allowed to throw it away. I also cannot throw away issues of the wall street journal that we still get delivered. If he finds one in the trash he transfers them to a berry box where he has been storing them. They are "his".

I've got a little worrier on my hands. It comes from me. I worry.
He worries about balloons not being secured so they don't float away, or in to a fan if indoors.
He worried about the pool toys being left in the pool.
He worried about his little snake toy being left at school and his sippie (both we had to retrieve the next morning after dropping Maes off at the bus.)
He might outgrow it, or he might turn into his mother.
I wish I did not worry so much.

Right on Schedule

I was looking back on previous posts to see what time of year I began to get anxious for the fall. I've been reading about the arrival, or signs of the coming arrival of fall in other parts of the country and I too have been getting anxious!
So last year I started my longing at the end of September and continued to long through October.

Then, come January, I was complaining of our too cold 60 degree day.

Today it will be hot again. I will recover from yesterday and play with Jake. He just ran in very excited from the bathroom with something for me to see. I thought it might have been a bug. But, he just wanted to show me his really big poop! Pretty exciting stuff. Maes will get her homework done right after school and maybe we will do an art project.

This fall I will:

1. Add a new member to our family.

2. Long to be this skinny again:

3. Make Chili (in fact, i think i'll soak some beans tonight!)

4. Go visit this place:

5.Start training for a marathon i'll run in May.

6. Hopefully take a road trip to see the changing leaves and eat pie.
