Mikah's 2nd birthday

When Maesyn turned 2 I recall that she wanted an Elmo cake and party.  Mikah could care less.  She is into spiderman and so she got some spiderman bubble bath.  My mom usually makes an apron for the kids when they turn 2 and hers had fish and frogs, two of her favorite things.  She also got a scooter and a monkey.  We kept things low key and headed out to Red Devil pizza with my parents!  Things turned out well.  It was nice to have Grandma and Grandpa Anderson in town!

Taper

A few months ago I read in Runner's world about the taper before a marathon.  Oh it is sweet... However, they mentioned something I had never experienced before...weight loss... I mean...major weight loss where they claimed they looked emaciated..and people would comment about it.  I have been such a slow runner, a lazy marathoner known to turn around and jog back for a friend, look at something that moved in the bushes and even wait in line to use a porta potty.  But after the major feet of breaking 4 hours last year, I have gotten very serious.  I read a book called racing weight and have been more strict than ever before.  I was never strict before so really I'm just saying I've been a little strict.  But this year I cross trained, and I weight lifted and I sort of watched what I ate.  I wrote down in my book that my current weight (sometime last spring?) was 119.2 and my body fat was 22.5% (based on my crappy scale- and the incorrect height..so my inaccurate scale had it been at the right height would have had a higher body fat percent).  My goal was to be 112.6lb and 18% body fat. At least that is what my book guesstimated would be great.
Well, My race is in 2 weeks.  I weighed myself this afternoon (i usually weigh myself in the morning- it is much friendlier then) And I am at 115.  Do not know my real body fat %, it is somewhere around 21 or so, but I am buying calipers.  I am strong (or sort of look that way) and I have muscles I never though I'd have.  I plan on taking a picture before the race- don't know if I will post..to say where I was at that point.  I will also post my racing weight.  I hope to keep track of my racing weight for each race to see what my real racing weight should be.

So this year I look skinnier- and I hope people do not think I am looking too skinny (you know in a mocking bad way...like OMG..you are getting way too skinny- and if they do they should lay off...I would never dream of telling someone that they are looking way too fat)  And, I can gain up to 8% of that back between races...121 is fine by me...and I'm sure my pants would like it if they fit again... In the mean time- I think that even if I stayed low I am still at a healthy weight..i have plenty of girth and fat (check out my legs and hind quarters)...but I don't think that will happen.  I think we will try for baby number 4 this fall.

Torn

But not really....
Here is my delema.  I am tired.  I got tested, and the conclusion was that all of my blood work looked good.  I just need to sleep more.  On a normal day I'd say I go to bed at 10:30ish.  I get up on my running days (3x a week) at around 4:40.  So i get about 6 hours 10 minutes of sleep.  I am generally tired these days.  I run and I love it and if someone were to promise me i'd be full of energy everyday if I just stopped running I'd have to say i'd rather be tired.

I need to run early with my group so I have the support.  I don't like doing it when my kids are awake because I get interupted or I let them watch hours on end of TV.  I do, however do a 20 or 40 minute work out video to cross train with kids awake, but it takes less time than running.

Last night i slept over 10 hours.  It is a rest day, so no running- although I might do a work out video.  I don't feel tired.

If I had lots of extra money and all of our house projects were done and we had the things we wanted (i.e. paid off cars, mtn bikes etc) I would love to visit a sports nutritionist and get some guidance.  I eat relatively well, i'd say excellent compared to most of America- but I am still tired.  I am sick of hearing some inactive- or not as active as me..people commenting on a week long boot camp (ok- they might be longer) that helped them loose weight and they had energy through the roof!  THROUGH THE FREAKIN ROOF!  Not me.  I work out just about daily- and if i miss working out it is probably because I was sick, had a sick kid or was involved with some intense house project (last few weeks my cross training has been moving and painting furniture and closet doors and planting our front shrubs)..not just because I was lazy..or did not feel like it. And I don't work out on Sunday.  The official day of rest.  And I get a "rest" day before long runs (you know tomorrow's 20 miler).  I guess I am saying I don't generally skip workouts!  I have a schedule.    BTW- I do not think I need to loose weight (maybe 3 or so lbs for my race- but racing weight is different) and I work out to gain muscle, loose body fat, look good (not gonna lie) and it makes me happy - oh so happy (and tired).

Off to do the laundry.  A clean house also makes me happy.

Wheager Family reunion- in Pine

This year we were able to have a family reunion with Grandma Garner's side of the family.  Grandma's mom died when Nate was just 5 months old and Grandpa Wheeler remarried.  With all the his, hers and ours children there are 15 siblings!  That makes for lots of Grandchildren and great grandchildren.  My kids are among the greats!
In the valley they have monthly family home evenings that we regularly attended, but up north we do not go to them and this reunion made up for it.  I would say if we could only see the extended family one time a year, this would be it!  It was fantastic.  We spent Labor Day weekend in Pine.  It was a little warm, but the fun made up for any discomfort.  It was long enough that my kids could get over being shy and reunite with the great grand kids (cousins) that they did not know too well.  It was excellent for Maesyn.  She is the oldest grandkid on both sides, and the second grandkid is her brother, followed by a boy cousin on the Garner side!  She was excited to have lots of little girls to run around with.
We celebrated the Olympics.  We were Germany (because I lived there and Summer Schlik served her mission there).  Summer brought all these cute clothes for the kids.
We had a great time and hope that it becomes an annual tradition!
